The progress reports

Each week (hopefully) we update this page with new photos of instruments in progress. The updates are usually made on Monday.

We hope that you enjoy seeing the progress on your instrument and those of others who have them on order.

Week ending July 15, 2002

VG34: almost done!! All the strings are on, the keys are in, the dog is made - just a few details to go..

VG35: the finish is rubbed out by hand, and the hole for the electronics access under the keybox has been cut with the laser

Meanwhile, assembly of the electronics package for VG35 continues.

VG36: the inside course of custom binding is in place

Pimpard: the wheel blank has been tapped for the shaft, and the wheel band glued on - at left is the template for the curvature of the veneer

:

Pimpard: The peghead is much clearer after careful cleaning

In the Germain, the center brace had come loose from the soundboard...

...

... and was glued back together. The head brace was removed, cleaned up, and glued back in also. The reinforcing dowels in the head block and peghead have been trimmed flush.

The Germain's back reassembly is completed with two more reinforcing cleats.

The Germain's peghead with the peg bushings glued in.

A friend donated the trunk of her holly tree when she had it felled. This section weighs about 125 pounds. We sawed it in half and sealed it for drying. In a few years we'll know if the wood is good for wheel bands or other instrument parts.

See last week for more pictures.
