The progress reports

Each week (hopefully) we update this page with new photos of instruments in progress. The updates are usually made on Monday.

We hope that you enjoy seeing the progress on your instrument and those of others who have them on order.

Week ending October 28, 2002

Here's the back of VG36 - I'll try to post a higher-resolution picture next week.

Wood for VG37, 38, 39, and 40 has been chosen from the storage shed, and is awaiting resawing.

Parts for the four VG's are collected in bind, one for each instrument.

Cutting out the wheel blanks for the 4 VG's

While selecting the wood for the VG's, we rearranged the big stack of wood beside the door into something more managable.

LB4: bending one of the last ribs.

Doyle: the soundboard split has been glued, and the upper soundboard has been refinished.

The new Doyle wheel being turned on the lathe. Here the insert is being trimmed to prepare it for drilling and tapping for the shaft.

The Doyle wheel band, shaft and wheel core with threaded insert

A chanter bridge being made for a museum restoration of a Colson.

Making a batch of tapered handle bearing blanks

One of the bearing blanks shown above grouped with the other parts for a handle: S-shaped crank, handle shaft, handle blank, ferrule blank

See last week for more pictures.
