The progress reports

Each week we update this page with new photos of instruments in progress. The updates will usually be sometime on Monday, which is the end of our work week.

We hope that you enjoy seeing the progress on your instrument and those of others who have them on order.

Week ending March 17, 2003

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Saturday, the 15th, was the Ides of March, and Phil Lesh's birthday. Happy birthday, Phil!!

VG36: fitting the keybox shelf (more has happened since, but I didn't get pictures - sorry!)

VG37: final fitting and testing...

VG37 (and others): making a batch of hinges for the keybox top

VG37: and it's done!

VG37: Cali doing one little final polish before shipping to Nashville.

VG39: the keys are fitted and the tangents are in

VG39: the chanter strings are on, and the wheel is scraped

VG40: fitting the keybox to the body

Justin's VG: More finishing...

The Pajot: shaping the wheel sides

The Colson: more measuring and calculating.

Lute-guitar: removing the cedar reinforcing strips from inside the body

Lute-guitar: gluing the rosette back together

Despite dire predictions of rain, the weather was very nice most of the time this week, making my morning hour in the garden more enjoyable. Here's the patch between the little creek and the wood storage building, before my latest round of clearing.

Here's the same view afterwards. No more brambles, no more nettles, no more scaffolding.

A Pajot Jeune has come to visit, for evaluation and perhaps restoration.

RTDWHG: gluing on the soundboard

RTDWHG: the soundboard has been trimmed flush with the body and the channel is cut for the binding

RTDWHG: Justin is cutting the binding pieces out on the little bandsaw

RTDWHG: the first pieces of purfling are glued in

See other weeks for more pictures.
