The progress reports

Each week we update this page with new photos of instruments in progress. The updates will usually be sometime on Monday, which is the end of our work week.

We hope that you enjoy seeing the progress on your instrument and those of others who have them on order.

Week ending May 26, 2003

A short week in the shop, due to the Northwest FolkLife Festival.

VG40: stringing up

VG40: all strung and ready to play

VG40: Cali playing VG40 at FolkLife wth Randy and RT.

We had a little excitement this week - a cement mixer lost its brakes on the hill coming down onto our road, and went into the ditch on the lot next door to ours. It took the combined efforts of several fire trucks, 3 ambulances, two hugh front-end loaders, a tow truck and a large flat-bed truck to clear the scene. Fortunately the driver survived with minor injuries and no one was in the way when the truck went through the stop sign. Here the truck has just recently been set upright. The big white blob at left is the cement drum, still loaded with 16 tons of slowly drying cement.

VG41: sanding the wood for the body and keybox sides

A Chinese scientist takes a big interest in the hurdy-gurdy. That's my instrument that he's holding, the first Volksgurdy we ever built.

RT, Joanne, Chris, and Marjy look as if they're having a good time cranking.

RT, Marjy, Dick Fiddler, and Joanna - probably discussing what to play next.
