The progress reports

Each week we update this page with new photos of instruments in progress. The updates will usually be sometime on Monday, which is the end of our work week.

We hope that you enjoy seeing the progress on your instrument and those of others who have them on order.

 

Week ending October 13, 2003


LB5 - the parts of the end cap inlay

 

LB5 - the completed end cap ready for hand bending

 

LB5 - shaping the undersides of the braces with a crooked knife (traditionally used by Northwest tribes for carving)

 

LB5 - gluing on the end cap

 

LB5 - sanding the body to the soundboard curve

 

LB5 - gluing together the soundboard

 

LB5 (and the Pajot) - making the knurled brass stock for the wheel insert


MK's Pajot - the new shaft

 

Pajot - gluing the crack in the peghead

 

Pajot - setting up the wheel on the lathe faceplate so that it runs true for boring and gluing in the insert

 

Pajot - gluing in the brass insert with a special high-strength epoxy

 

Pajot - drilling and tapping the body for the new bearings


 

OR2 (S&RD) - the body is rubbed out and the masking removed

 

OR2: using the airbrush for a final color coat on the peghead

 

OR3,4,5 - the stock for the sides and backs
