The progress reports

Each week we update this page with new photos of instruments in progress. The updates will usually be sometime on Monday, which is the end of our work week.

We hope that you enjoy seeing the progress on your instrument and those of others who have them on order.

 

Week ending October 27, 2003


LB5 - fitting the wheel band - sometimes this is a fast job, but not this one!

 

LB5 - gluing on the wheel band

 

LB5 - starting to turn the outer shape of the wheel


 

AW's luteback - fitting and gluing the second side, while starting to trim the first side


 

OR2 (S&RD) - a big block of the new wheel material on the bandsaw

 

OR2 - bandsawing out the blank from the new material

 

OR2 - turning the new wheel on the lathe - the material comes off in long streamers, which festoon everything...

 

OR2: laying out the positions of the replacement soundholes

 

OR2 - laser cutting the original soundholes out

 

OR2 - new soundhole inserts glued in, with parchment backing

 

OR2 - Cali milling the backs of the new key set

 

OR2 - the new wheel is in, and the chanter strings are on


OR3 - preparing the body for the soundboard


A renowned classical guitarist chose us to work on the neck of his instrument and make some other minor adjustments

 

Cali applies some sealer to the reshaped neck
