The progress reports

Each week we update this page with new photos of instruments in progress. The updates will usually be sometime on Monday, which is the end of our work week.

We hope that you enjoy seeing the progress on your instrument and those of others who have them on order.

Week ending November 3, 2003

Happy Halloween! For the first time, we grew our own pumpkins in our garden - just little sugar pumpkins, mind you, but our own nonetheless. We carved them up on All Hallows Eve:

Here's Cali's

and Alden's

... and Justin's.

LB5 - final shaping and sanding the wheel on the big lathe

LB5 - the wheel and shaft assembly ready to be put in the body

MK Pajot: final shaping and finishing the wheel

Testing the wheel fit in the body

The handle crank, patterned after an old Pajot design

AW's luteback - gluing in the last of the binding

AWLB: the binding is trimmed, and the keybox is being refitted to the soundboard

AWLB: drilling the bottom of the keybox for the pins that hold it on the body

OR2 - the wheel is scraped down, and the lower keys and tangents are in

OR3 - cutting the carbon-fiber soundboard material on the scrollsaw

The guitar: the filling is complete and Cali is adding the color coats and the final French polish coats.

The frost in the garden forms ice crystals on the rose next to the studio, where the spray room is. There's a larger image here: Big Rose
