The progress reports

Each week (hopefully) we update this page with new photos of instruments in progress. The updates are usually made on Monday.

We hope that you enjoy seeing the progress on your instrument and those of others who have them on order.

Week ending January 6, 2003

Happy New Year!

It's been something of a slow week - we lost our electricity for almost a whole day, and we had a trip to Seattle for a family dinner at Judy Foo's, and there's been some illness - not a great start for the year, but no matter. We're still having fun. ;-)

VG36: making a custom nut (mixed metric and Imperial) for the capo

VG36: milling the support arm for the capo

Keybox sides for VG37 (left) and Justin's (right)

.

VG39: cutting the binding channel

VG40: ready for the top braces (I should have said "linings" last week instead of "braces".)

LB4: the body is being scraped inside and out to remove glue and true up the surfaces

LB4: reinforcing strips of hemp fabric are glued along the joints

"The Monk":almost done! Justin and Cali spent many hours adjusting and tuning and adjusting and tuning, so it sounds pretty good now. Justin got the keybox top put on.

The Reichmann: some wheel scraping to reset the wheel angle, and a new chanter string

The Colson: the original shaft was not running true, so a new shaft is being made.

The Colson: the wheel halves have been glued to a new core, carefully aligned to look like the original

.

Hey, that's not a hurdy-gurdy! No, it's an antique wooden-works clock, which we're doing a little casework repair on.

The starting pieces of wood for a supporting shelf for the clock.

The power outage left us without power tools, but we still have hand tools. Here I'm hand planing the back piece of the shelf.

See last week for more pictures. I haven't written the new page yet, so you still have to page back through. Write me email and complain gently so I remember to do it, OK? The squeeky wheel gets the grease, or so they say... - but don't klimp MY wheel!

See last week for more pictures.
